Beagles Puppies - Breed Description
Beagles are very much like Foxhounds on appearance. Males are 14-16 inches tall (36-41 cm), and females are 13-15 inches tall (33-38 cm). In the USA, there are two varieties of the Beagle according to height, one ranging between 13-15 inches, and the other not exceeding 13 inches. Males weigh 22-25 pounds (10-11 kg), and females weigh 20-23 pounds (9-10 kg). Beagles also vary according to the type of coat, which can be either soft or rough.
Their coat is water-resistant, and they are among the few dogs, which do not have the doggy odor. These dogs are short-coated, and therefore require little grooming. They come in a variety of color combinations, which usually include white, tan, brown and black. Usually, Beagles combine three of these colors.
Beagles have quite muscular bodies. Their paws are rounded and strong. The tail is carried high and it features a white tip. The head is square, featuring a slightly rounded skull. The eyes are round, dark-brown or hazel, projecting a characteristic begging expression. The ears are long and pendant, and the nose is black, featuring well-developed nostrils.
Beagles Puppies - Behavior
Beagles are joyful, boisterous, loyal and inquisitive by nature. They are highly sociable and intelligent and always seek exploration. They are friendly towards other dogs, but are less tolerant of cats or other non-canine animals. However, well-socialized Beagles can get on well with other pets in the house. It is better to have two Beagles, especially if you are often absent from home. These dogs cannot withstand loneliness and often suffer from separation anxiety. If left alone, they produce long howls, which can be rather disturbing. If a dog catches a smell, he may run away and never return.
Separation anxiety can be difficult to cure, and it requires a lot of time and patience. This behavior often comes as the result of mistreatment or improper socialization. This is more common to rescued Beagles, and in this case, it may be impossible to eliminate this disorder.
